Lycogala epidendrum

We frequently see these in our woods. My best guess at an ID is wolf’s milk slime. I had always thought it was a fungus but it turns out it is a slime mold. I got really interested in fungus a while ago because they’re just so weird. Also because once you spot them they hold still to have thier picture taken.Slime molds move faster than fungus for the most part but they still hold still a lot better than life in the fauna category.
Look what happens when you squish them. Eeeew.

I’ve got to go back to the woods for another photo. We found them growing all over a bunch of chancres on a tree and wondered if they were actually the cause of the chancres.
