Newfangled Starbucks Instant Coffee

Starbucks Via Ready Brew

I finally tried it last night. I really like it.

Seriously.

It was good. I’m kind of a coffee snob too. We grind our beans fresh & use a French press and boil the water to a specific temperature and  time the soaking time. I don’t like the way Starbucks brews their coffee at all. They seem to work to bring out all the bitterness in the coffee. Maybe Starbucks knows how to brew coffee right but they’re catering to the people who think that they’re getting more caffeine if their coffee is more bitter.

I like their beans and apparently I like their little instant coffee packets.

It’s not cheap. It ends up being a little less than $1 a cup but for camping and traveling and when you can’t bear to drink the coffee like substance that’s been burning in the office coffee pot for the last 2 hours, sometimes that $1 could be worth it. I feel like I need to go camping to give it a true test.

But I’m always looking for an excuse to go camping. I’ve been fantasizing about doing a S24O on the bike to the Finger Lakes National Forest or maybe Keuka Lake State Park.

Gannett Hill Campsite

This was campsite at Gannett Hill. Far from bathrooms and water but also far from all the trailers and tailgate party style campers. Quiet & pretty. One night we heard an owl. It might have been a great horned owl, but we’re not sure.

Gannett hill is a huge hill that seems to be the hill climb to do for local cyclists. I haven’t tried it yet. I know it would kill me. Our car has a hard time climbing it.

Review: “Unbreakable” Coffee Maker

We bought the GSI Lexan Java Press at Dick’s on the first day of our vacation. A coffee press is just about the easiest and best way to do coffee when you’re camping but this may not be the right coffee press to buy.

It brewed great coffee for six days and on the sixth day it died. All the little spokes on the bottom half of the plunger broke off and now it doesn’t plunge. :( Sadly I think we used the box to start a fire so now I’m not sure who to complain to. I suppose I can take it to Dicks.

The description says “unbreakable” but that is apparently not true. Buy some other Unbreakable Coffee Press.
