I was thinking about driving down to Penn Yann and riding a loop around Keuka Lake this weekend. The predicted sun and heat meant that my dad would be trying to get a lot of hay cut & baled and put in the barn so I decided I’d ride up to Sodus Point instead so I’d have no driving time and more time to help out.
Approaching the lake I hit lake road and was reminded of the 95degree 40mile deathmarch/ride I dragged Brian on a few years ago that possibly turned him off from cycling.
I made it to Sodus Point with plenty of energy to spare, maybe not quite enough to get home easily, but I still felt pretty good at that point. I sat under the pavilion on the beach and ate my dry mini-wheats and brazil nuts while smelling the delicious hotdogs cooking in the concession stand nearby.
I remember spending a lot of time at Sodus Point beach as a kid. It’s fairly close to home and who doesn’t want to swim in the lake, except when there’s a fish kill or an algae bloom, which seems to be all the time. Also my aunt and uncle’s sailboat used to be docked at the marina up there so sometimes we’d go hang out on the boat with them.
The ride home was good for a while but google maps took me down a pretty boring road which always seems to decrease my energy level. Close to Lyons the roads are always interesting. It’s still just drumlins but the hills seem to roll in this more attractive pattern. Maybe it’s just where they decided to place the roads or maybe the drumlins are just more shapely in Lyons.
I saw a bunch of goats. Someday I’d like to have goats, except that I probably really wouldn’t. I don’t need any additional responsibilities in my life. I just like goats.

According to MyTracks:
total distance: 45.79mi | moving time: 3:46 | elevation gain: 2074ft | avg moving speed: 12.14mph
wow! I’m impressed with the 45 miles! and 12mph avg.
awesome!
I don’t know if it’s fudging it that I just included my moving speed. I did have a nice long break in there and a quite a few gasping for air halfway up a hill breaks.
When I’m not campaigning for a dog I switch to our need for Myotonic Goats. If I ever win you are more than welcome to come play with them.
Before you commit to Myotonic Goats, you should consider Damascene goats: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2008-06/13/content_8363780_4.htm
At first I thought perhaps you had merged pictures of Shrek and Donkey to create this beast. Then I went searching for other images to confirm this was real. I’m sticking with Myotonic Goats, they are cute and the comedy factor of having goats that appear to faint when startled appeals to me more.
Yeah. The Damascene goats are pretty scary looking. I can’t decide if Damascene goats winning the most beautiful goat contest is a kind of Saudi irony or if it’s a good example of beauty in the eye of the beholder.
Me I’m waiting for the alpaca bubble to burst. Then I’m going to get me a herd of alpacas at rock bottom prices.
