Fish and Food Fears

I kind of like fish ok. A good fish fry can be pretty awesome. A delicious fried fish sandwich with lots of ketchup is something I have a good appreciation for. I like shrimp a lot. I love calamari and it’s brethren.  I even like dried octopus and dried squid all right. I got to try pickled herring at my friends’ Ukranian Christmas dinner last year.

But I didn’t grow up eating much fish beyond fishsticks and tuna casserole. My mom hates fish and all marine life.

Brian doesn’t like fish either but he tried making smoked salmon tonight. It came out really good. I liked it.  I think if you a fish aficionado you would love it. But we’re both a little fish-phobic. For me it’s lack of familiarity, for him… he just doesn’t like fish much.

My tastes keep changing as I get older. I like red wine now and I used to hate it. I’m starting to like olives. I like fish ok at this point but someday I hope I will have the same lusty feelings toward fish as I have toward pork ribs and cheese burgers. I also hope to appreciate blue cheeses some day. Right now I cannot stand them.
