About a month ago I noticed that a spider (species unidentified) was living on the wall next to my desk & she had at least five egg sacs. I like spiders ok so I left her alone.
Yesterday we were cleaning up the house in preparation for a visit from some friends. We had almost finished everything and I went upstairs to change my clothes to run to the store for some last minute things. I walked into the bedroom and discovered that apparently flying ants had nested in the ceiling next to our skylight… over our bed… and a very large number of them had chosen that very moment to leave the nest for greener pastures (our bed). There were hundreds of them. I was horrified. I suppose it was because they were all over the bed. I went downstairs to get the vacuum cleaner. I decided to get my camera too so I could get a picture but Brian suggested I just get the vacuum cleaner. (So, sorry. No picture of the ants available.)
I am usually a rescuer of indoor bugs. At work I am the weirdo who will catch whatever bug has wandered in to someone’s office and take it outside. One or two bugs I will rescue but when they are swarmed all over your bed your perspective changes a bit. We had an invasion of millipede’s a couple of years ago. We were forced to defend our territory with liberal use of the vacuum cleaner then too.
One of the spider egg sacs hatched today and though there are probably thousands of them. They don’t bother me. They’re so tiny I can barely tell they’re spiders. They aren’t crawling all over my bed and they aren’t covering the floor so I have to be freaked out about stepping on them (like with the millipede infestation.) Plus, I’m hoping I can negotiate a contract with them to take out the ants and the millipedes.
